I have been sailing since about the age of four. My parents were originally members of Dovestone Sailing Club, near Greenfield. We were let lose at a young age and explored the whole area, from waterside to mountain top.
My first crewing experience was with my father in a Mirror. Moving on to helming, in a Mirror with my sister as a crew. The family had a number of boats, that were sailed by parents, myself and my sister.
Mirror, Miracle and Enterprise.
We took the Mirror and Miracle on many sailing expeditions, most in Cornwall and Devon with many other families from Dovestone SC and occasionally up to Coniston Water.
I took a break from sailing whilst I took my exams. I found a job and saved up my money and bought a Laser Dinghy, in approx. 1989. I became a member of Winsford Flash Sailing Club in about 1990, 1 year before the new club house was officially opened.
I have sailed Lasers to this day, having started and the back of the fleet and gradually improved by position, to on occasion win the odd race. I have sailed in the Abersoch Dinghy week many times and have actually won a race there!
I enjoy the May Bank Holiday weekend at Coniston. A great place to sail and the views and stunning. Post sailing activities normally involve a pint or two and a good pub meal.
